By Bob McGarry, Haddam First Selectman.

With deep regret, I’m writing to inform you the State Department of Public Health reported our first COVID-19 fatality in Haddam, a male resident over age 70. Our hearts and sympathies go out to his family and friends. In his honor, please take a moment to hug your loved ones or thank an essential worker. The Town of Haddam, in consultation with the Connecticut River Area Health District (CRAHD), continues to closely monitor the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Please follow the guidelines to avoid contracting or spreading the disease:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Stay away from crowds
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your face
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and phones daily
  • Maintain social distancing of at least six feet.

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your primary care physician or a walk-in clinic before going to their office.

I will continue to provide local updates on measures we are taking to address the COVID-19 pandemic, check our website www.haddam.org/  and the Connecticut River Area Health District website (www.crahd.org).
