Hello, Killingworth–
Connecticut’s coronavirus numbers are heading in the right direction: cases, deaths, and hospitalizations are all going down, and the number of people tested is going up. Still, we’ve had 3,041 deaths in Connecticut are associated with COVID-19. For perspective, in 2018, CDC data show that 757 people in Connecticut died from the flu. We must remain cautious.
Stimulus payments. Noon on Wednesday, May 13, is the deadline to submit direct deposit information to the IRS for your coronavirus relieve payment. If you qualify for a payment but do not submit direct deposit information by the deadline, you will receive a paper check in late May or early June.
IRS has revamped its Get My Payment page. You can check on the status of your payment, submit payment information if you did not file a return in 2018 0r 2019, provide bank information, and get answers to many questions.
Lions food drive. The Killingworth Lions will be at Recycle Way once again this coming Saturday, May 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., collecting nonperishable food, grocery store cards, and cash for the Backpack Program and Helping Hands. The Lions follow strict protocols to keep everyone safe-donors, collectors, and recipients.
You may also make a tax-deductible contribution to the Friendly Fund, which provides emergency assistance for expenses such as utility bills. This is one-time help for people facing pressing economic hardship. Send checks to the Friendly Fund, Killingworth Town Hall, 323 Route 81, Killingworth, CT 06419.
Many thanks to the generous donors who have already contributed, and a special shout-out to the KES Class of ’71, which recently organized a drive to raise money for Helping Hands.
Stay home, stay safe.
Cathy
