Gotta

Bob Gotta’s Acoustic Open Mic – Bob Gotta is back the second of August to host Buttonwood’s monthly acoustic open mic! With refreshments, snacks, and good community, fellow performers are beckoned to join Bob in displaying their musical prowess. Piano and full sound system, including amps and cords, are available. 7-9pm, $5 admission

Anything Goes – From 7-10pm, every Monday, join us at The Buttonwood Tree and sharpen your skills in a judgement-free environment. Whether you’d like to flex your vocal chords or play an instrument, regardless if you’re seasoned in live performances or are stepping onstage for the first time, performances of any kind are encouraged! $5 admission.

Teen Open Mic – On the eighteenth of August, from 3-5pm, The Buttonwood Tree is where teens are free to peddle and hone their craft for all to see! From speeches to poetry to screenwriting, too, all performers aged 12-18 are invited for a chance to display their artistic side, and support one another in a positive, supportive environment. Bands are welcome too! We can provide a drum kit with advanced notice. $5 admission.

Personal Development:

Aligned with Source: A Personal Development Workshop and Meditation – Every Saturday barring the eleventh, from 10:30am-12pm, Annaita Gandhy invites you to her interactive workshop. A Spiritual & Holistic Healer from India, she offers a deep understanding of life, holism and spirituality, enabling one to rise above life’s challenges, and live a healthy, fulfilled & confident life. $10 suggested donation (Pay what you will) New topics every week.

Gentle Yoga – Every month on the second and fourth Tuesdays, from 1:15-2:15pm, Theresa Govert hosts a Hatha Yoga class that is both easy and supportive. It emphasizes breathing practices, intention of movement, and inner-wisdom coupled with body positivity. We promise you’ll leave feeling more empowered and connected with yourself! Free admission.

Crystal Bowl Sound Healing – On the twenty-first, from 7:30-8:30pm, Lou Sorrentino reveals how music can heal the body. With instruments such as crystal bowls crafted for perfect resonance, Lou aims to restore your flow of energy to its proper state and bring peace to your body. Free admission!

Shaking the Tree: Gong and Sound Meditation – On August sixteenth, 7-9pm, Andrew Prue will utilize gongs, bells, ocarinas, drums, horns, shakers, singing bowls and many other meditation items designed to take you off to dream land. Bring friends, a blanket, a yoga mat, and good vibes! Free admission.

Middlesex Drum Circle – All are welcome to join this drumming session on August twenty-third, so long as they enjoy a good rhythm and a desire to expel some negative energy! Extra percussion instruments will be provided, though if you own one we encourage you to bring it. Free Admission, 7-9pm.

Laughter Yoga with Dawn – From now on, this program is running the third Tuesday of the month! Now hosted by local healer, Dawn Tyson, from 6-7pm, Laughter Yoga is an exercise of the mind that strengthens your ability to laugh in the face of hardship. It involves child-like play with meditation and breathing exercises and laughing, so no yoga mats needed! Donations are appreciated.

Storytelling:

Story City Troupe – As we’ve done upon the first Friday of every month, Story City will be joining us the third of August from 8-10pm. A storytelling troupe based in Hartford, Story City regales true, personal stories, often funny, sometimes amazing, poignant or ironic, and based on a single theme for the evening. You’re guaranteed to laugh, cry, identify, or a mix of the three! $10 admission.

NEAR and Far Storytellers (Hosted by Theresa McGoff Ferreira) – From 3-5pm, on Sunday the twelfth, come tell your story or listen to others. Our host will engage you with tales centered around life and the mysteries in how it works. $5 admission.

Tom “The Suit” Forst

August 4th, 8-10pm
“Blues Hall Of Fame recording artist” Tom the suit Forst and The Band Beyond will perform at The Buttonwood Tree on Saturday, August 4th. Bringing with him a flavorful blend of rock and blues from his newest album, Tom is sure to put on a show that lives up to its title, “On Fire!” $15 Admission

Frank Varela Quartet with Carl Knox
August 10th, 8-10pm
For a long time, Frank’s dazzled audiences with his guitar-strumming style called “foot bass.” Carl Knox is a veteran talent who currently serves as the Director of Jazz Studies at CCSU. Together, these long-practiced talents will put on a show will amaze on a level beyond the standards of jazz. $15 Admission

Higher Grounds Tour (Feat. Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise)
August 11th, 8-10pm

Kuf and Christine’s upcoming show at Buttonwood is their signature blend of Hip Hop, Soul, and Reggae – a style digs into your heart and manages to leave a smile upon your face
. This duo’s mission is to use the power of music, personal experience and empathetic relation to help individuals grow to meet their fullest potential. $12 Admission ($8 for Students)

Adler & Hearne – Jazz/Folk Duo

August 16th, 8-10pm

From Texas’ upper east side, award-winning singer-songwriters Lynn Adler and Lindy Hearne are looking to reach audiences from one coastline to the other! Their music has a little bit of everything for everyone – an original blend of hearty folk, somber jazz, bluer blues, and wholesome Texas roots. $15 Admission

 

Berryhill

Cindy Lee Berryhill Trio
August 17th & 18th, 8-10pm

Cindy Lee Berryhill, together with Cellist Renata Bratt and light percussion/glockenspiel player Paula Luber, will rock Middletown left, right, and center before hitting you in the chest with deadly precision. Their music is a reflection of life and all the beautiful hardships that come with it. $20 Admission

A Memorial for Stacy Philips – by His Bluegrass Characters
August 24th, 8-10pm
Grammy-winning dobro and violin player Stacy Phillips leads an all-star group of acoustic musicians. At last
he and his characters
return to the hippest venue in Middletown! When you hear this group you will understand why bluegrass-style is a world-wide phenomenon. $15 Admission

The Three Buskateers
August 25th, 8-10pm
An acoustic jazz trio featuring guitarists playing European-style Selmer-Maccaferri guitars. Their repertoire consists of jazz standards popularized by Django Reinhardt in the 30s & 40s, as well as contemporary music ranging from video game themes to arrangements from other genres.

Deborah Davis – Jazz Vocalist + Quartet

A jazz vocalist fused with Texas blues, gospel, and soul, she has a natural flowing charm and flawless stage presence that draws you into her show. Come by Buttonwood and see this marvel of Jazz live, backed by her entire quartet! $20 Admission
